Privacy notice
me3 is built to collect as little as possible. This page says exactly what is stored, where, and for how long.
On your device
Your keys, contacts (the names you give them), messages and settings are stored in your browser’s storage, encrypted with a key that your passphrase unlocks. We can’t see any of it. “Wipe this device” in Settings deletes it all.
On our server
- Encrypted messages, filed under mailbox numbers that change every six hours. Deleted as soon as the recipient’s phone collects them, and after seven days at most. We can’t decrypt them.
- Rate-limit counters (to stop abuse), keyed by a scrambled form of your IP address using a secret that is replaced daily. Deleted within two hours.
- Reports you choose to send: the reason, your note and any messages you ticked. Kept until the report is dealt with, then deleted (and no longer than 12 months unless we must keep them for legal reasons).
- We don’t store names, phone numbers, emails, contact lists or IP addresses in our database.
Our web host
Like nearly every website, our hosting company’s web server may keep standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) for security and troubleshooting. We aim to keep these as short as our host allows and never use them to track people.
Cookies and tracking
The public pages and the app set no cookies. There are no ads, analytics, trackers, embedded videos or third-party fonts or scripts anywhere on me3. (The owner’s admin area uses one sign-in cookie, which only the owner ever receives.)
If you email us, we keep your email to reply and delete it when it’s no longer needed. We never ask for an email address to use me3.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we hold almost nothing that identifies anyone, there’s usually little to find. Contact hello@me3.org.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
